Yesterday I had a photo assignment at La Reina HS in Thousand Oaks, CA. Drive is about 50 miles from home. An hour and a half before our appointment, a La Reina administrator said the weather was fine, so I left. Well western Simi Valley, Moorpark and northern Thousand Oaks was under a deluge so heavy my windshield wipers, set on high, could not handle the rain. This was so about a 1/4 mile north of La Reina. Had we agreed to postpone the appointment to another date, I would have visited my dad in Moorpark.

In spite of the rain I was able to photograph La Reina’s soccer and basketball teams. I used overhangs and roofs to photograph both individuals and teams. It is raining in the background of the attached photos.

On the way home, weather was sunny, partly cloudy and beautiful.

This past Sunday a fellow choir member of my wife hired me to photograph her grand daughter at her home. I had photographed another grand daughter 5 years ago. In their family, 10 girls over 4 generations, portraits are taken at the age of 7. The poses are all the same.

When I photographed the other grand daughter I had no idea what was being done. I had no white background and we improvised by placing a white sheet over a bedroom window.  I photographed Hanna in her grandmother’s enclosed patio area.

Attached are the three poses they want.  The photo with the roses kept color, is an additional offering. They purchase 3 sets of 3-5×7 black & whites which they frame. This time I also suggested and photographed Hannah in regular clothes and let her pose herself and a set of images were taken with grandma’s dog.

We showed everyone the images on computer and they immediately ordered their prints.

The family has started doing this with the boys but I have not had that opportunity yet.
